Once you do that it will allow you to leave comments any time and will automatically recognize your google account so you do not have to enter it more than once. If you have trouble creating an account directly from the posting area, you can create a google account here. Then go back and try to comment. summer beauties

These just make me smile.
I am in awe of their details, aren't you?
A collection of happiness pointing gratitude toward heaven.
Perhaps we should take lessons from the flowers.
A color combination that is indeed eye candy and makes me want to paint.
Each petal looks as if God himself hand watercolored each one.
Indeed He did.
happy day!
What's blooming near you?

missing my golfer and handling disappointment

Our 13 year old went straight from our beach week
with two of his amazing grandparents to Alabama.
(bless them for braving the long drive and the incredible heat!)
He qualified to play in the Future Masters golf tournament in Dothan, Alabama.
Unfortunately his practice round was the best round he had while there...a 72.
He battled the heat, a weather delay and over 100 other boys in his age group.
He was disappointed in his scores but he won with the way he handled it
and after all, that's the the hardest thing to overcome.
He came home with a new head cover, new golf towel, a few other goods
but most of all he came home with a head and heart full of great memories with his grandparents
and a determination to play better and try it again next time!
More tournaments on the horizon and at least he knows he is loved no matter the score.

We are family...and sweet delivery

Wanted to show you what I gave my sweet man for our anniversary...
it was really a family gift.
The very talented Pam Anderson of Charlotte paints these birds on a wire oil paintings
and does custom ones to depict how many people are in your family.
I fell in love with one of them from the Carolina Art Soiree ...
remember that event from here?
But it only had 5 birdies...
so I asked her if she would be willing to add a sixth bird. She agreed and I love it!
I really big puffy heart love it!

It's the colors, the texture, the symbolism, my love of birds, the frame...all of it.
It's 30"x30" and beautiful.
But the best part was the title she gave it...
WE ARE FAMILY
That did it...I was sold.
He loves it...the kids love it too.
Happy anniversary to the sweetest man on earth!
I love you even more now than I did then.
xoxo,
Caroline

someone who isn't expecting it!
BE A BLESSING!

Last week our family spent the entire week here.
We had incredible weather...thank you Lord!
Mom always brings fresh flowers from her garden which we all love...
We had amazing food....
like homemade caesar salad
Dad took the kids on the boat to drop the crab traps
and a day later they picked them up...
steamed shrimp and sausage...
Silver King corn.....yep...the best!!!
even my oldest prepared a yummy shrimp linguini
but mostly he played golf....LOTS of golf.
We made homemade pizzas...
grilled chicken, garlic and arugula
garlic, fresh basil and parmesan
We celebrated Father's Day and the kids gave daddy
  this.
We made homemade mixed berry sorbet one night
and cappuccino gelato the next.
It was amazing!
We had adventures too:
Charlotte lost a tooth on the very first night!
Unfortunately the Tooth Fairy got lost and we had to e-mail her the next morning.
Luckily she e-mailed back quickly letting Charlotte know that the room was really dark
and she couldn't see the pillow with the pocket
so she had accidentally dropped the money behind her bedside table.
Whew!
We played lots of games like...
which was hilarious!
And of course we had our 2011 Talent Show...
The girls designed the programs....you know I took paint!
We had everything from magic tricks to dancing to golf techniques to art and fashion.
I highly recommend family talent shows during the summer.
Great family tradition!
We even took a road trip to see Nan and Papa Joe's new house on Daniel Island.
They are calling it "the cottage" and we looooooove the cottage!

Our kids had time with their cousins
(we had my sister's 2 boys for a few days)
and even some friends from Charlotte happened to be there too...
and my littlest nephew can throw a perfect circle with the shrimp net
just like his daddy

the waves were super strong one day and the boys were able to ride them in with big smiles
discoveries were made by small hands and curious minds

then of course there was beach golf which I taught you last year HERE

crazy cousin time...
But also relaxing time...
Bike rides,
walks on the beach alone and with those I love,
exercise,
much needed sleep,
time to reflect
and
ponder God's goodness.
I was able to spend some time with my favorite camera and snapped color everywhere I could.
sometimes even the most basic things are beautiful...don't you agree?
especially at the beach.

Caroline

God is...

Saw this wonderful sign one block from where I stayed in NYC during Surtex
I was mesmerized by the colors and words all intermixed
on such a large sign in the middle of Manhattan.
It was at TIMES SQUARE CHURCH...
powerful, don't you agree?

Hydrangea Cupcakes!

I absolutely looooove hydrangeas. I carried them in our wedding 17 years ago this Friday.
(cannot believe that!) yikes!
They grow in clusters in my mom's amazing garden.
I stopped dead in my tracks when I saw this post recently and just had to share this goodness.
The cupcakes almost look too real to believe, don't they?
If you want to see the step by step,
you can find the directions and recipe over here at Glorious Treats.
Gorgeous and delicious, don't you think???
Have a sweet summer day!

*********************************************************************************
Today was Father's Day and so happy Father's Day to all the wonderful fathers out there!
And today was my parent's 45th anniversary.
I love that they grew up in the same small southern town;
they even went to Kindergarten together.
Now years later....they're still happy and in love.
And today would have been Pop's 100th birthday....my father's father.
My grandfather was the artist
and the one I am sure I got some of my artistic talent from.
Someone else painted him here...
He died when I was 9, but I think about him often and wish he were here so we could paint together.
He had very little money. He owned a small furniture store in rural Georgia.
He couldn't afford to buy frames for his paintings so he made his own.
That's one of my favorite parts of the paintings though.
This is one of "Lady" his wife and my grandmother.
She died when I was 13... and she was truly such a lovely lady.
I remember she used to let us play with her jewelry and make up
and I still remember the smell of her perfume.
He painted this of his his daughter/ my aunt
who was also blessed to inherit his artistic talent.
Love you sweet Mimi!
This is one of my all time favorites of Pop's paintings...
He painted several nudes but they are tasteful
and I guess I just love them because he painted them.
Love the colors in this....

I really do not know the history of each...need to ask my dad and aunt these questions
and I wish I could ask Pop.

Missing Pop and appreciating the fact that I inherited an ounce of his talent.
Family is such a gift and it also makes me realize
how important it is to ask questions about our family's history and hear their stories.
I need to do more of that.
Hope you all had a great weekend and celebrated the fathers in your family!
xoxo,
Caroline
