made with love and lace...

Hope you had a great weekend!
So much going on this time of year...it's so easy to get swept up in the cyclone speed of December.
I could list all the things that happened here this weekend but we'd all be dizzy.
Bet it's that way on your end too.
I am trying so diligently to not be swept into the rush....
rather focusing on the slow and deliberate goodness of this season
and what it really means and why we celebrate it in the first place.
Another something slow and deliberate...and beautiful.
My sweet mama has decided after 30+ years to pull out her sewing machine again
and I could not be happier.
Especially now that I am a fabric designer, I am tickled pink that she's enjoying sewing again.
I have decided there is just something therapeutic about creating with our hands.
We touch it, feel it, manipulate it, transform it, create it, and often we pour our heart and souls into it.
These handmade projects are made with love, in love.
And we all know you can't buy love.
You certainly can't find love on store shelves at Walmart and not even the finest boutiques in the world.
Handmade love is creating something with the recipient in mind.
Loving that person enough to know for certain that they'll love and treasure the gift for years to come
and they'll know you took the time and energy to create it just for them.
You just cannot find this in stores folks.
So Mom searched high and low for the old family lace she had sewn on the dress she made for me and my sister when we were the ages of my girls.
She found the lace remnants and after purchasing new chocolate velvet and raspberry corduroy
she sewed the most luscious dresses for our girls for this winter.
They are beautiful and the lace and the handiwork tell a story
and make me flashback to my own childhood.

playing after church today...
They are beautiful, so beautiful.
Thank you Mom, for the handmade love.
And to my talented readers out there.... (for those of you who sew AND those of you who don't)
do share below what handmade gifts you plan to make as Christmas gifts for those you love.
We'd love to hear your stories and ideas.
Blessings,
Caroline

  2. My daughter is probably your age. She has two girls. She posted on Facebook about my sewing and some of her friends asked for help. They had machines they had either forgotten how to use or had never threaded a bobbin. Five girls and I met, laughed and learned how to thread their machines and make bobbins. They each finished a simple apron. Blessings
