What a special evening!
Other than trying to act like I wasn't sick, it was an amazing event!
Tuesday night we had a big group head to bank of America Stadium.
Here's who went:
the Simas six
my parents
two of William's buddies who helped with the Lemonade Stand
and William's sweet teacher from 2nd grade (who nominated him for this!)
We met two of the Panther's players
They were enormous!
Being silly with Sir Purr!
Lots of hugs with Sir Purr...for the girls!
It was neat but strange being at the stadium with not one person in the seats!
I was able to introduce William to Charlotte's Chief of Police, Rodney Monroe.
You may remember I met him when he came two weeks ago
to speak to our adult Sunday School class.
William received his award...and went through a long receiving line.
William is in 4th grade now but his sweet 2nd grade teacher,
Ms. Radcliffe, was the one who nominated him without us even knowing!
How precious is she?
So thrilled she could be a part of this!
And to boot, William is the first CMS student from Selwyn to be recognized for Do the Right Thing...
so the new plaque went to school today and will hang in the building.
and even more prizes...
oh, and there was dinner and an enormous cake!
After dinner, we all were invited on a tour of the stadium.
We were able to tour the press area, the Bank of America executive suite,
the guest team's locker rooms, and so many other "behind the scene" areas.
If you want more details you can check out the entire Flickr group of photos HERE.
I was camera happy (shocker!)...took 102 photos from the evening!
Their website has not been updated with Tuesday night's ceremony but hopefully it will be soon.
It's a fabulous organization!
It was such a special evening and I am so grateful that William was recognized in this way.
The stories were amazing and it was so inspiring
to hear how so many kids showed character and bravery
by doing the right thing.
xoxo,
C
