Blind Spots

We've all done it...had a moment driving when we had a blind spot...
when we didn't see someone even using our handy-dandy rearview or side mirrors.
It's probably happened to us all more than once.
It's scary and certainly makes us realize the importance of double checking
to make sure the coast is clear.
It happened to me recently,
and it got me thinking that we have blind spots every day,
not just when driving.
We may have a blind spot when we don't notice someone hungry or in need
sitting on a bench outside of the grocery store.
We may have a bind spot when we're too busy grabbing our own Starbucks
to notice a group of recovering alcoholics who gather there to support one another.
We may have a blind spot when we purchase all of our children's school supplies
but forget to buy more for children can't afford them.
We may have a blind spot when we rush to soccer practice
driving right past the assisted living center
where so many would just love to visit with a smiling child.
We may have a blind spot when we dismiss the man at the intersection
who's holding a cardboard sign begging for work and food.
We may have a blind spot when we're so busy getting our "to do lists" and work done,
that we don't even notice the miracle of the sun setting.
Lord, help us to wipe our mirrors clean, free from streaks of selfishness
and allow us to be free from blind spots.
Amen!
xoxo,
C
