Freedom & Lightning Bugs

They come out in the early evenings of June.
Catching lightning bugs is just part of childhood and summer, don't you think?
Even after shower time and pajamas, we let the children run through the yard
catching until their heart's content.
It was one of those snapshot moments...
memory making in progress.
It reminded me of two things...
how very fortunate we are to live in a country
where we have so many freedoms.
Freedoms which also include letting our children run freely
and safely within our own back yards...
even in pajamas.

It also reminded me of this verse
and how we are called to "let our light shine" before others.
We let our light shine when we pray for our enemies.
We let our light shine when we help those in need.
We let our light shine when we give God the credit for our gifts and talents.
We let our light shine when we love our neighbors as we love ourselves.
Enjoy this upbeat version of This Little Light of Mine from Bruce Springsteen in Dublin.
Bet you can't listen without singing along!
May your light shine brightly always
but especially this weekend
as we celebrate our country's many freedoms
which we are so blessed to call our own.
xoxo,
C

  1. Hey there Southern Belle! Guess what? The only time I ever saw lightning bugs I was the same age as Sarah Grace! There are no lightning bugs in the West. My kids have never seen a single one... Sounds so romantic and fun. But we have fireworks, oh yes, and bonfires and other summer pleasures. And our lights shine, here, too. Hugs your way and wishes for a happy independence day! Come out to the West sometime and bring your sweet family...
