Reality check-bam!

Ok, so I have been whining about winter! Maybe it's because of the 1953 charming, but poorly insulated house we live in. Maybe it's because I ran out of hot chocolate when I served it to every kid in our neighborhood during the snow days.
Maybe I have been whining because the kids, particularly the girls, have been changing clothes 5-6 times a day because every time they do go outside to play they fall in the wet, melted snow or mud and the laundry seems to be multiplying like crazy. Then, reality check....bam!
This greeted us at the bus stop at 6:55am. Gorgeous! Isn't God great at making us stop dead in our tracks by showing us the glory of winter sunrises? Clear, cold, crisp, amazing. "You're blessed" is what He was trying to tell me. "Why don't you just LOOK around and find my beauty in this cold season you're complaining about."
Another reality check...my husband and oldest son served Room in the Inn at church the other night. The stories; the hurting homeless who do not have a 1953 poorly insulated (and yet so warm) home to rest their weary heads.

And how can I complain?...look at all the fun we've had here.
And as we head into another weekend of cold/icy mix in the south, I ask you...are you having similar "reality checks" this winter?
